Freshwater Plants
Anubias Pots.
Hardy, slow-growing anubias in a pot — thick, dark-green leaves on a tough rhizome that shrugs off low light and nibbling fish. Beginner-proof; tie or wedge it onto wood or rock (don't bury the rhizome) and it'll thrive almost anywhere.

Good tank mates
A hardy live plant that suits virtually any freshwater community and is safe with fish, shrimp, and snails. Its tough, bitter leaves are usually left alone even by plant-nibbling fish, which makes it one of the few plants that holds up in tanks with goldfish, cichlids, or other notorious plant-eaters. It pairs especially well with shrimp and small fish that appreciate the cover its broad leaves provide.
Good to know
Anubias barteri should never be planted with its rhizome buried; it naturally grows attached to wood and rock, and burying the rhizome causes it to rot.
