LPS Coral
Duncan Coral.
One of the best beginner LPS (large-polyp stony) corals — fuzzy, tubular polyps in green and tan that fatten up fast when fed. Peaceful, reef-safe, and forgiving of moderate light and flow; it'll branch out into a glowing colony in a 30-gallon-plus reef.
In-store purchase only. Live fish, coral, and invertebrates are sold at our Erie store only. They cannot be bought online, and we do not ship live animals under any circumstances.

Live animals are sold in store only — we do not ship fish, coral, or invertebrates. Every animal is acclimated and health-checked in-house before it reaches the sales floor. This is a species we carry — it's most likely in the tanks around delivery days, but live stock changes daily. Please call (814) 456-9445 to confirm availability before you drive in.

Good tank mates
Duncan coral is a peaceful, reef-safe LPS that coexists well with fish and most other corals, and it makes a forgiving companion for clownfish, gobies, and other calm community species. It has minimal aggression toward neighbors but should still get a little space from stinging corals like hammers and torches that can sweep into it. It poses no threat to tankmates and is a fine choice for a mixed reef.
Good to know
Duncan coral readily adds new heads and polyps off the sides of existing ones, so a single colony slowly branches outward into a clustered bouquet over time.

Ultra Black Ice
Reef-safe and peaceful; does not nip coral tissue. Duncan coral (Duncanopsammia axifuga) is among the more tolerant LPS hosts when clownfish lack an anemone — Reef2Reef hobbyist consensus shows colonies typically adapt within weeks, though small or single-head frags should be monitored closely for smothering or tissue recession caused by persistent hosting activity.

Royal Gramma
Considered 100% reef-safe by all major authorities; does not nip corals, anemones, or clams. Retreats to rockwork crevices and does not interact with coral tissue, making it an ideal co-inhabitant for the rockwork-heavy low-flow environment Duncan coral thrives in.

Firefish Goby
Fully reef-safe; does not nip or disturb coral tissue. Hovers near the substrate in the same low-flow mid-to-bottom zone Duncan coral occupies without any physical contact with polyps. Note: a tight-fitting lid is mandatory as this species is a confirmed jumper.

Green Chromis
Reef-safe; ignores corals and sessile invertebrates entirely. Occupies the mid-water column well above where Duncan coral is placed. Known intraspecific dominance aggression within the school is a fish-management concern, not a coral compatibility issue.
- N
Neon Goby
Tiny (under 2 inches), peaceful cleaning-station fish that is universally considered reef-safe. Will not nip or irritate coral tissue and provides parasite-cleaning service to tankmates; no documented negative interaction with LPS corals of any kind.
