Saltwater Fish
Green Chromis.
A shimmering blue-green schooling fish — peaceful, reef-safe, and one of the best beginner saltwater fish for adding movement. Keep a group in a 30-gallon-plus reef; they shoal beautifully over the rockwork and get along with most everything.
In-store purchase only. Live fish, coral, and invertebrates are sold at our Erie store only. They cannot be bought online, and we do not ship live animals under any circumstances.

Live animals are sold in store only — we do not ship fish, coral, or invertebrates. Every animal is acclimated and health-checked in-house before it reaches the sales floor. This is a species we carry — it's most likely in the tanks around delivery days, but live stock changes daily. Please call (814) 456-9445 to confirm availability before you drive in.

Good tank mates
A truly peaceful schooling damsel that mixes well with most reef community fish like clownfish, gobies, firefish, and other calm species. They look and behave best kept in an odd-numbered group, since lone or paired chromis can turn nippy with each other; over time a group may thin itself out as a pecking order forms. Avoid keeping them with large aggressive fish, and don't expect the docile temperament of their more bullying damselfish cousins.
Good to know
In a group, green chromis shimmer between green and pale blue depending on the light, and on the reef thousands hover together over branching corals, darting into the branches as one when threatened.
Stock and individual temperament vary — call (814) 456-9445 for pairing advice before you buy.

Ultra Black Ice
Chromis viridis is among the most peaceful damselfishes and is explicitly called out as safe with Ocellaris Clownfish in 40+ gallon tanks by multiple reef authorities. Both are small, non-predatory, and occupy different niches (open water schooling vs. anemone hosting). Concerns about damselfish-clownfish aggression apply to more belligerent damsels, not Chromis viridis.

Royal Gramma
Multiple independent sources explicitly name Blue-Green Chromis as a compatible tankmate for Royal Gramma. The Gramma stays hidden in rockwork crevices while Chromis schools in open water — no territorial or niche overlap, and temperaments match.

Yellow Watchman Goby
A peaceful, reef-safe bottom-dweller that spends its time in substrate burrows — a completely different ecological niche from mid-water-column Chromis schooling. No competitive pressure, no aggression record between these species, and identical saltwater parameter requirements.

Firefish Goby
Both are small, peaceful, reef-safe fish with no predatory overlap. Firefish hover near rock structures in the lower water column while Chromis school mid-water — distinct niches eliminate territorial conflict. Compatibility lists from multiple reef sources confirm this pairing.
- B
Bicolor Blenny
Confirmed compatible with Chromis viridis across multiple sources. The Bicolor Blenny perches on rockwork and does not compete for the open-water space Chromis occupies. Known territorial behavior in this blenny is directed at other blennies and similar-shaped fish, not at schooling damsels.
