Freshwater Fish

Green Severum.

The green severum is a disc-shaped 'poor man's discus' — peaceful for an 8-inch cichlid and surprisingly personable, learning to take food from your hand. Give a single fish or pair a 55-gallon-plus tank with driftwood; they may nibble soft plants. A great centerpiece cichlid.

Live animals are sold in store only — we do not ship fish, coral, or invertebrates. Every animal is acclimated and health-checked in-house before it reaches the sales floor. This is a species we carry — it's most likely in the tanks around delivery days, but live stock changes daily. Please call (814) 456-9445 to confirm availability before you drive in.

Good tank mates

Semi-aggressive and a larger cichlid, so it needs similarly-sized, not-timid tankmates and is not for a peaceful nano community. It's relatively easygoing for a cichlid and can share a roomy tank with other medium, even-tempered fish such as larger peaceful cichlids, silver dollars, or bigger tetras and barbs that can hold their own. Avoid tiny fish it could eat and very aggressive fish that will harass it; it can also get territorial when breeding. Call us to plan a stocking list for your tank size.

Good to know

Nicknamed the 'poor man's discus' for its disc-shaped body, the green severum is a South American cichlid that often learns to take food from its keeper's hand.
