Good tank mates
Ocellaris clownfish are among the most peaceful saltwater fish and pair well with other calm reef-tank residents like firefish, royal grammas, small gobies, and many tangs. Keep only a single clown or a bonded pair per tank, since two unpaired clowns (or a second pair) usually fight; avoid large predators such as lionfish, groupers, or eels that may eat them, and aggressive damsels that bully them.
Good to know
All clownfish are born male and the dominant fish of a group changes sex to become the female, so in a pair the larger fish is always female.
What is in the tanks and each animal's temperament vary — call (814) 456-9445 for pairing advice.

Royal Gramma
Peaceful basslet that stakes out a cave in the rockwork rather than competing with clownfish hosting space; well-suited to the same small-to-medium reef tanks clownfish prefer.

Banggai Cardinalfish
Calm, slow-moving, reef-safe mid-water swimmer that occupies a different zone than the clownfish and poses no aggression; keep singly or as a mated pair to avoid intraspecies fighting.

Firefish Goby
Shy, peaceful dartfish that hovers in the mid-water column and retreats to a burrow when startled, creating no territorial conflict with clownfish; needs a tight-fitting lid.

Yellow Watchman Goby
Bottom-dwelling sand-sifter that establishes a burrow far from the clownfish hosting area; fully reef-safe and matched in temperament to this peaceful species.

Skunk Cleaner Shrimp
Peaceful reef-safe invert explicitly recommended as a clownfish companion; provides cleaning services and is neither threatened by nor a threat to this 3-inch saltwater fish.
- T
Tailspot Blenny
Small, algae-grazing rockwork dweller that does not compete with clownfish territory; suitable for tanks of 20 gallons and up and matches the peaceful temperament of ocellaris.
