LPS Coral
Fox Coral.
A peaceful LPS (large-polyp stony) with soft, ruffled, ridge-like folds in cream and green — no sweeper tentacles, so it plays nicely with neighbors. It wants low-to-moderate light and gentle flow on the sand bed of a 30-gallon-plus reef. An easygoing, elegant coral.
We keep this species at our Erie store. Come and see it in the tanks, or call (814) 456-9445 and ask what we have in right now.

Good tank mates
A calm, peaceful LPS that does well alongside other gentle reef inhabitants like clownfish, gobies, firefish, and most reef shrimp, plus other non-aggressive corals. Its tissue is delicate and it does not have strong sweeper tentacles to defend itself, so give it open space and keep it away from aggressive stingers like Euphyllia (hammers/torches), galaxea, and bubble corals that can sting or shade it. Avoid housing it with fish or large hermit crabs known to nip coral polyps.
Good to know
The fox coral has a continuous, flowing wall of fleshy tissue stretched over a thin skeleton, giving it a ruffled, almost fabric-like edge with no visible polyp mouths during the day.

Firefish Goby
Reef-safe and docile; occupies the sandbed and lower rockwork and never interacts with coral colonies. Its small size and non-aggressive feeding style pose zero documented risk to fox coral's fragile, extended polyps.

Pajama Cardinalfish
Peaceful, slow-moving, and fully reef-compatible; hovers near rockwork without disturbing the water column or substrate around fox coral, and has no history of nipping or irritating LPS polyps.

Royal Gramma
Confirmed completely reef-safe with all corals and sessile invertebrates; retreats into rock crevices rather than open water and poses no threat to fox coral tissue or skeleton.

Green Chromis
Fully reef-safe schooling fish that remains in the water column and is universally documented as non-destructive toward LPS corals and community invertebrates.

Skunk Cleaner Shrimp
Reef-safe invert that sets up cleaning stations on rockwork; when kept well-fed it will not steal meaty food from coral polyps, and it adds beneficial parasite-removal activity to the tank.
