LPS Coral

Aussie War Paint Scolymia.

A prized Australian 'scoly' — a single fleshy disc that can blaze with war-paint reds, greens, and oranges. A slow-growing LPS (large-polyp stony) that wants low-to-moderate light and gentle flow on the sand bed; feed it now and then and it'll color up into a real collector's piece.

We keep this species at our Erie store. Come and see it in the tanks, or call (814) 456-9445 and ask what we have in right now.

Sea Cave keeps this species. You will find these in the tanks at 660 East 14th Street in Erie. We never ship live animals.

We never ship fish, coral, or invertebrates — every animal here is one you meet in person. Each one is acclimated and health-checked in-house before it goes out into the display tanks. This is a species we keep, and what is swimming on any given day changes with the deliveries, so please call (814) 456-9445 before you drive in.

Good tank mates

This is a single, solitary LPS coral rather than a fish, and it does best with its own footprint of space on the sand or rockwork because it can extend stinging sweeper tentacles at night. It coexists with fish and most cleanup-crew invertebrates, but keep other corals from growing into contact with it. Ask the staff if you want help placing it safely among other corals.

Good to know

Often called a scoly, this Australian disc coral comes in wildly painted color patterns and is a single large polyp rather than a colony of many small ones.

What is in the tanks and each animal's temperament vary — call (814) 456-9445 for pairing advice.
