Soft Coral

Toadstool Leather Coral.

The Toadstool Leather Coral is a popular and hardy soft coral named for its distinctive mushroom-like shape, featuring a broad cap with finger-like polyps along the top. It is an excellent choice for beginner reef keepers due to its tolerance of a range of water conditions. This coral can grow quite large over time and makes a striking centerpiece in a reef aquarium. It periodically sheds a waxy coating as part of its natural self-cleaning process.

Good tank mates

Generally compatible with other peaceful corals and reef fish, but requires adequate spacing as it can release chemicals (terpenes) that may irritate neighboring corals. Keep away from aggressive stony corals or corals with long sweeper tentacles.

Good to know

Toadstool Leather Corals can reproduce asexually by dropping pieces of their cap, which can then settle and grow into new colonies — a process called fragmentation.
